Welcome to SmartGate’s EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) service. This document provides an overview of how we securely exchange data between clients and liners using SFTP.
What Is EDI?
EDI is an electronic communication method used by businesses to exchange standard documents such as invoices, purchase orders, and shipment details. Our system streamlines these exchanges using a secure SFTP setup.
Key Benefits
- Security: All data is transferred over secure protocols.
- Reliability: Automated file transfers reduce manual errors.
- Efficiency: Streamlined process for exchanging documents.
Directory Structure
Each client has a dedicated folder under /edi
, with subfolders for
each liner. For example:
/edi/AcmeInc/hapagl
Within the liner’s folder, there are two subdirectories:
to
– For uploading files to the liner.from
– For downloading files from the liner.
How Clients and Liners Access Their Files
- The client places files into the
to
folder, which the liner can then retrieve. - The liner places processed or response files into the
from
folder, which the client can then download.
Authentication
We support both password-based and SSH key-based authentication. Each user has unique credentials, ensuring that only authorized individuals can access their designated folders.
How to Connect via SFTP
You can use any SFTP client (such as FileZilla or WinSCP) to connect. For example:
sftp username@ftp.smartgate.tech
After logging in, you will be placed in the folder corresponding to your account.
You can then navigate to the to
or from
subdirectories.
Security & Compliance
At SmartGate, we follow industry best practices to ensure your data remains secure and compliant. All transmissions are fully encrypted, and strict file permissions prevent unauthorized access.
